Sadly, I can't remember the rest of the lyrics, but Eric sang about sitting on the porch with his dog and driving a Cadillac all at the expense of the government.

The local government didn't like it.  Every time WMPO (Wampo) played it - the local police showed up and took it off the air.  Wellllll....you can imagine what that did - it became the most requested song in SE Ohio!  The 45's sold like hot cakes.  The record stores couldn't keep it in stock it was that popular...welllll...with everyone but the cops.

Eric refused to be stopped.  He'd crank up the amps in his second floor alley apartment and sang it to the neighbourhood. Wellll...you can imagine what that did - the cops came and nailed him for disturbing the peace and singing a song the government deemed illegal.

Needless to say - Eric was our hero!  (happy smile)

Welcome to the early 70's folks!  Yip!  That's when it happened.  Even back then, something so simple as mocking the government's welfare program could get you fined, tossed in jail and your record being banned from the radio.  So much for freedom of speech.

Anyway, I wonder what would happen these days if Eric still wrote songs and wrote one mocking obama?  (evil grin)

PS:  Eventually, the cops had to relent and the rebel won.  :]  So, three cheers to the Tea Parties today!  Long live rebels!!!
